Florida Genealogy Subscriptions Change

Greetings Florida Researchers!

It is our sad duty to report the impending demise of bloglet, our subscription service for Florida Genealogy. To avoid any interruption in service, all existing subscribers have been transferred to our new service provided by FeedBlitz.

To avoid missing events, please add feedblitz@mail.feedblitz.com to your email address book. If your email bounces or is not accepted, you will be removed from the subscriber list. If you later decide to rejoin, simply add your email address to the form above and click on "Subscribe Me!"

If you no longer want to receive updates from us, there will be a link in every email to unsubscribe. Alternatively, you can also email your request to feedblitz and you will be removed within a business day (typically much faster than that) they say. For additional Subscriber information, please visit the FeedBlitz website.

Also, please take a moment to review their Privacy Policy. I did and I am quite satisfied with it. The only third party that will see your email addresses is... well it's me. And I already see them and won't share them with anyone.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment.

The Southern Genealogist's Exchange Society, in Jacksonville, Florida, presents a Spring Seminar, on Saturday, March 11, 2006, with Brent Holcomb, Certified American Lineage Specialist and Genealogy Lecturer, from South Carolina. His topics: land records, probate records, vital records and substitutes for them, as well as Carolina history. Ancient Maps of Florida

Ancient Maps of Florida

1545 - 1878

This is a wonderful collection of old maps that used to be on the Forest Protection Bureau website. The only way to access them now is through the Internet Archives Way Back Machine.

Location of Spanish missions & Forts

Unfortunately the missions and forts are not named on the map, but at least you know where to begin looking...

Heraldry in the United States (not just Florida)

Heraldry in the United States

Commercial firms that purport to research and identify coats of arms for surnames or family names — and sell depictions thereof under the guise of a "family crest" — are engaged in fraudulent and deceptive marketing. The consumer's best defense is a proper knowledge of the laws of heraldry.

Yes, I know this isn't just Florida - but the information and warning at the link are worthwhile.

Why Another Site?

Simple. I am constantly receiving requests to add a link, or a referenence or a genealogist to my own genealogy web sites. Rather than check every request, I have decided to add them here and let you be the judge.

Please tell us if a resource, genealogist or URL has been helpful to you and let us know when you run into problems. Use grades to evaluate:
A = Excellent
B = Very Good
C = Average
D = Poor
F = Absolutely Awful
Use plus (+) and minus (-) if necessary to fine tune the grades. Feel free to add detailed comments or just use a grade.

Anything genealogical may be posted for your review. I look forward to your input.
